10 Ways to Stretch Space to Improve Home Organization

From one of my favorite blogs. –

When it comes to home organization, it takes two things to make it happen:  1)  Decrease the amount of stuff that you have.  2)  Increase your storage space.  Sometimes you have to be a little bit creative when it comes to stretching your space, look up, look down, look all around!  If you need a little bit of help, here are 10 ways to stretch your space:

1)  Look up and use the ceiling such as with this great overhead storage unit for the garage.  Stuff over, car under.

2)  Use hooks on the wall to maximize storage.  Great for garden tools like shovels & rakes in the garage!

3)  Use available space under your bed.  A storage container with wheels and tight fitting lid is ideal.

4)  Use wall space, walls are a blank canvas waiting for shelves & hooks!

5)  Use organizing products. The options abound!

6)  Use wall racks to increase storage-especially great in garages!

7)  Look for overlooked areas that you can use for storage:  washing-machine-wire-shelf-amazon1

8)  Use doors-another blank canvas waiting for hooks.  You can even purchase hooks that just slide over the top of the door.  No nails, no holes but a place for your towels or robes!

9) Take advantage of height or stacking.

Make decisions on what to keep, let go of the excess and then use any or all of these tips to stretch the space that you do have!

If you live in California you would know that on a daily basis you are hit with ads and water cooler talk about recycling. You stand over three to four cans in work cafeteria trying to figure out what goes where. And you are shamed into thinking you are a bad person if you don’t do it right. In fact, in San Francisco you can be fined for not throwing food waste in storage can.
I have been trying to recycle a dishwasher and finding it is not the easiest thing to do, as far as convenience goes. Because let’s face it convenience is why recycling will or will not work. When I bought new dishwasher from local hardware store I was told to take the old one to their recycle location. Turns out that does not exist. Guess they were eager to sell the appliance. Looking online on county website I found many that charged for pickup. Finally a neighbor gave me a number of a guy named Juan that would come and pick up for free. I am guessing Juan does not show up in a green peace save the earth sweatshirt!

Adjusting to New Hours

I have just moved and now adjusting to my new schedule. Quite a dramatic change from leaving anytime in the morning for twenty minute bus ride to 90 minute scheduled train ride. Oh yeah and waking up at 5:15! So how have I made adjustments. Waking up is the hardest part but when the alternative to missing my express train is adding another 35 minutes motivation kicks in. The key is to get organized the night before. Contacts for morning out, shirt and pants selected, bag packed, keys and wallet where I expect them to be, and iPhone charged. This allows me to sleep in a bit longer and not be thinking about it all night. Oh and we have a four month old! All aboard!
